Pop star also talks making Paul McCartney uncomfortable, divulges grandma's crush on Snoop Dogg
Miley Cyrus hit the streets of Los Angeles as an undercover news reporter on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday night to get the full scoop on what real Americans think of, well, Miley Cyrus.
As Kimmel noted, the "I Witness News" bit had the potential to be awkward should Cyrus — posing as Australian report "Janet" — run into any true haters, but the musician lost neither her accent nor sense of humor. One interviewee not only blasted the entire Cyrus family, but later on suggested, "I think she's starving for attention and that's why she's doing it all crazy like that. She's missing something somewhere."
"In her heart, probably," Cyrus said, not missing a beat. "In her deep soul."
The awkwardness continued. Cyrus spoke with a man who had no problem with her, but liked Taylor Swift better. Speaking to another woman, Cyrus pretended to forget her own father's name while the woman posited, "I think she lost her mind in the Hollywood madness."
Still, Cyrus had some fun with some of her interviewees, including two teens who sang the chorus of "We Can't Stop" before joining the eager, pant-suited Janet for a quick twerk. The entire bit ended with one man telling Janet straight up, "I think you're Miley Cyrus right now."
"That look like Miley Cyrus?" she replied, turning towards the man and offering him a peak down her blouse. "Looks like Miley Cyrus, doesn't it? I need you to keep that on the DL, but it's Miley Cyrus' titties. Janet up here, Miley down here."
Cyrus, who's hosting the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday, also sat down for an interview with Kimmel, where the topic quickly turned to her characteristically outrageous and revealing outfit.
While Cyrus downplayed her father's own reactions to her sartorial selections — "He'd rather me have my tits out and be a good person, than have a shirt on and be a bitch" — she acknowledged one awkward moment her clothes caused during this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony.
"I was there and we were talking to Paul McCartney, and I saw him not knowing how to talk to me," Cyrus said, gesturing with her eyes. "Which, I don't really know how to talk to Paul McCartney, so it made me really comfortable because it made him more uncomfortable. So sometimes it is a nice convo ice breaker. You can be like, 'Stop staring at my tits!' and the convo keeps going."
Kimmel also asked Cyrus about a picture she recently posted featuring her grandmother and Snoop Dogg. The photo was taken while filming a sketch, and Cyrus recalled: "We called and we asked her to do this, because I didn't know if my grandma would do this or not. So we called and I was like, 'Well there's a rapper his name is Snoop Dogg.' And she goes, 'Well I know who Snoop Dogg is.'
"And then I guess the whole way home she told my mom, 'He's just so tall!'" Cyrus continued. "So now I think my grandma might be in love with Snoop Dogg."
